Maxine Clark established Build-A-Bear Workshops Inc. in 1997 and has been on the board of directors since the company was incorporated in 2000. By the close of 2006 There were about 300 Build A Bear Workshop stores worldwide, including company held stores in the US, UK and Canada and some franchised stores in Europe, Asia and Australia.  Bearemy®, the company's huggable mascot, was born on August 21st, 1998 in St. Louis, Missouri.
